Is Twitter Down? Downdetector Has Latest On Global Outage
Twitter said Thursday it was resolving the issues after multiple reports from users around the world who couldn't connect to the platform.
ACROSS AMERICA — The social media platform Twitter began coming back to life around 9 a.m. EDT Thursday after a brief service outage that affected users around the world.
“Some of you are having issues accessing Twitter and we’re working to get it back up and running for everyone,” the company tweeted around 9:10 a.m. “Thanks for sticking with us.”
Users began reporting problems connecting to the platform to the internet-crash tracking site Downdetector around 8:05 a.m. Some received "over capacity" error messages, and other messages said "this page is down," according to the reports.

The platform's mobile and web applications and its TweetDeck app were all affected, according to the user reports.
The "over capacity" error messages were common in the early days of Twitter, when the platform collapsed under heavy use, but hasn't had an outage this long since 2016, when it was down for more than two hours, The Guardian reported.

The outage came as Twitter and Elon Musk tussle over his decision to walk away from a previously agreed to $44 billion purchase of the social media company. This week, Twitter sued Musk, the world's richest person, saying "Musk apparently believes that he — unlike every other party subject to Delaware contract law — is free to change his mind, trash the company, disrupt its operations, destroy stockholder value, and walk away."
