VIDEO: Charlotte Police Shooting: 'He Doesn’t Have a Gun,' Wife Tells Cops

Newly released footage shows the events around Keith Scott's death but not the shooting itself.

Keith Scott's family has released a video to the press showing the events surrounding the man's killing at the hands of police, which sparked three nights of protest in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The video, shown below, does not show the shooting itself, though the shots can be heard while the camera is turned away. It was recorded by Scott's wife, Rakeyia Scott. The recording has also been turned over to the police.

In a statement to the press, Charles G. Monnett, an attorney for the Scott family, said that the video was released "in the name of truth and transparency."

He continued: "The family is still hopeful that the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and the city of Charlotte will release all available video of the incident to the public so that people can draw their own conclusions about Keith's death. We encourage everyone to reserve judgment until all the facts are known. This is simply one step in our quest to find the truth for this family."

The statement also asks for peace in Charlotte.

Police maintain that Keith Scott was armed when he was shot, and in the video they can be heard ordering him to "drop the gun." If the officers saw a gun and believed themselves to be in immediate danger from Scott, investigators would likely conclude that the killing was justified.

However, Rakeyia Scott can also be heard telling the police that Keith Scott does not have a gun, that he has a traumatic brain injury and that he just took his medicine.

In the protests that followed Scott's death, many have called for police video of the incident to be released. While Scott's family has been allowed to see the police's recording and have called for it to be made public, the police have thus far refused to release it.

Friday afternoon, Hilary Clinton joined those calling for the the video to be made public on Twitter, indicating with her signature "-H" that the quote came directly from the candidate:

Clinton later announced that she would be traveling to Charlotte on Sunday.

Police Chief Kerr Putney has said publicly that the video does not definitively prove the officers' story. Rakeyia Scott's video, too, appears not to provide evidence on the crucial details of the incident.

The New York Times also provided the following transcript of the recording, which shows that police and Rakeyia Scott appeared to disagree in the moment about whether or not Keith Scott was armed (expletives have been edited out by Patch):
