Watch: Video Of Donald Trump Rally In Portland, Maine

After a week of turmoil, Donald Trump tried to assure voters that he has everything under control.

Donald Trump spoke at a rally Thursday in Portland, Maine, nearing the end of the week marked by turmoil for the campaign as his poll numbers plummet.

It's unclear why Trump chose to speak in Maine, a state that has reliably voted Democrat in the last six elections. Clinton led Trump by seven percentage points in the latest state poll, taken nearly two months ago.

The rally was the only event Trump has scheduled for Thursday. His running mate, Mike Pence, had three campaign stops scheduled. Trump was scheduled to speak at Merrill Auditorium in Portland starting at 3 p.m. You can watch video of his remarks below.

The week for Trump began with the candidate feuding with the Muslim family of an American soldier killed in Iraq, a move that irked many voters and politicians on both sides of the aisle. Trump has been in a near free fall in polls taken this week.

In a Fox News poll released Wednesday, Hillary Clinton's lead was up to 10 percentage points nationally. She leads Trump by 5.8 points in a RealClearPolitics average of recent national polls.

It's gotten so bad that several Republican leaders are reportedly considering an "intervention" with the candidate, hoping to wake him up and spark a permanent pivot to a more serious and measured candidate.

The group is hoping for help from Trump's children, whom the Republican nominee says he listens to most, with the aim that they will be able to convince their father to get the campaign back on track after days of feuding with the parents of a fallen Muslim-American soldier that even his closest political allies, like Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey, have called inappropriate.

Trump, of course, has called the reports false. He said in a tweet early Wednesday morning that "There is great unity in my campaign, perhaps greater than ever before. I want to thank everyone for your tremendous support."
