A video of the incident was retweeted nearly 4,000 times and was picked up by several major national news outlets. It shows De Los Santos picking Darwin up and throwing her on the ground in the midst of a chaotic scene, then picking her up.

"No further information will be released until the investigation is complete," the city's statement said. "We ask the community and all members involved to be patient while we investigate this matter."
Darwin's mother, Desiree Harrison, said she went to the school, but they wouldn't tell her what happened. She didn't see the video until she got home.
"When I'm looking at this video, I'm like, 'Oh my god, this cannot be happening to my child,' because I was just up at the school and they didn't even tell me what happened to her," Harrison told WRAL. "They were so busy trying to get rid of the one who was in a fight but didn't even say something about the one that was not involved in anything."
Rolesville High School Principal Dhedra Lassiter said she was "deeply concerned" about the video.
"The safety of our students is always our first priority," Lassiter said in a statement. "Our school district works with many dedicated officers who protect our students. It is vital that our children have a positive relationship with these law enforcement officials. Those relationships are built on mutual respect."
