Women's Strike Date Announced By March On Washington Organizers

The group behind the organized marches that drew hundreds of thousands of protesters across the country is organizing the strike.

The organization behind women's marches that drew thousands of protesters across the country following President Trump's inauguration has set a March 8 date for its "a day without a woman" general strike.

The group announced the date in a Twitter post Tuesday afternoon. Few details were available about exactly what the strike would entail.

The Twitter post came with an image that read, "General Strike: A Day Without A Woman March 8." The text of the post said: "In the spirit of women and their allies coming together for love and liberation, we offer A Day Without A Woman. #WomensMarch"

A post on the group's Instagram page elaborated a bit more, but details were scarce about the logistics of the strike. Here's what the Instagram post said:

In the spirit of women and their allies coming together for love and liberation, we offer A Day Without A Woman. We ask: do businesses support our communities, or do they drain our communities? Do they strive for gender equity or do they support the policies and leaders that perpetuate oppression? Do they align with a sustainable environment or do they profit off destruction and steal the futures of our children?
We saw what happened when millions of us stood together in January, and now we know that our army of love greatly outnumbers the army of fear, greed and hatred. On March 8th, International Women’s Day, let’s unite again in our communities for A Day Without A Woman. Over the next few weeks we will be sharing more information on what actions on that day can look like for you.

The group's plans for a strike were first announced earlier this month.

"The will of the people will stand," read a tweet from the group on Feb. 6.

"General strike: A day without a woman," read an image contained in the tweet. "Date to be announced."
