Cinco de Mayo is often mistaken in the United States for Mexico’s Independence Day, though it really serves as a day commemorating a military victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. In fact, the tradition isn’t widely celebrated in Mexico, and Cinco de Mayo parties are more of an American thing.

That being said, Cinco de Mayo in the United States is a blast, and we could all use a reason to have a little fun while social distancing. And just because you can't throw a party during quarantine doesn’t mean your stay-at-home Cinco de Mayo has to be dull. To help you have the best at-home holiday possible, we compiled a short list of our favorite products to make this year's Cinco de Mayo a fiesta to remember.

We also included our favorite recipes for two classic Mexican cocktails: the margarita and the paloma. (The paloma is actually more popular than the margarita in Mexico.) Both drinks highlight tequila; and if you want your cocktails to shine, it's important to pick up a bottle (or more) of quality tequila — specifically, one that's made with 100 percent blue agave. And, of course, we recommend supporting your local Mexican restaurants and bars by ordering takeout if you can. ¡Salud!

This Cinco de Mayo, why not try making guacamole and salsa at home? This granite molcajete doubles as a gorgeous serving dish, and it's perfect for grinding grains, spices and herbs as a mortar and pestle.
