CNN Reveals President Obama's Parting Letter To President Trump
Every president leaves a letter to his successor. Here's what Obama had to say to Trump.

WASHINGTON, DC — As each occupant of the Oval Office steps down from the presidency, tradition dictates that he write a brief letter of advice and guidance to the incoming commander in chief. While these letters are typically kept secret for some time, CNN over the weekend obtained a copy of President Obama's note to President Trump — containing a formal and encouraging message that stressed the responsibilities of the office.
"Congratulations on a remarkable run," Obama wrote, according to CNN. "Millions have placed their hopes in you, and all of us, regardless of party, should hope for expanded prosperity and security during your tenure." He also stressed how fortunate any president is to be so successful and the importance of American leadership on the world stage. Presidents, Obama added, must be the guardians of " rule of law, separation of powers, equal protection and civil liberties." When Obama and Trump met during the transition period, the incoming president said he appreciated his time with his predecessor. On the letter, Trump said, "It was really very nice of him to do that, and we will cherish that. We will keep that, and we won't even tell the press what's in that letter."
