Leaked Climate Report Shows US In Peril From Global Warming: NYT

The Trump administration has not yet approved the report.

WASHINGTON, DC — Despite a continued political debate about the reality and significance of global climate change, a new draft report from scientists in 13 federal agencies concluded that the United States has experienced temperature increases in recent decades and is under serious threat from global warming moving forward, according to a revelatory report from Lisa Friedman at The New York Times.

“Evidence for a changing climate abounds, from the top of the atmosphere to the depths of the oceans,” Friedman writes, quoting the draft report. President Trump has repeatedly dismissed the importance of global warming and the contributions of human activity to the changing climate; he has called it a "hoax" perpetuated by China, and he pulled the United States out of the much-lauded Paris climate accord. According to the report, the U.S. is already experiencing significant climate shifts as the result of human emissions, and coastal communities will face severe threats in the future.

The Trump administration has not approved the draft report for release, which must happen by Aug. 18. Some scientists are worried the administration will alter the report or suppress it before it is officially approved, the Times reports.
