President Trump's Nominee Sam Clovis Pushed 'Birtherism': CNN

The nominee to be chief scientist at the Department of Agriculture called Eric Holder a "racist black."

WASHINGTON, DC — Sam Clovis, an early Trump supporter and the president's nominee to be chief scientist at the Department of Agriculture, trafficked in "birther" conspiracy theories and called then-Attorney General Eric Holder a "racist black," according to a Thursday report from CNN.

Reporters from CNN's KFile reviewed Clovis' writings and broadcasts from his conservative radio show during the Obama administration. They found that the Trump nominee, who will need to be confirmed by the Senate, called black leaders "race traders." President Obama, he said, was a "maoist." He also attacked other Democratic leaders with extreme language, claiming House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi had "something" happen to her brain and that then-Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid was "mentally ill."

Like other Trump appointees involved in science roles, Clovis is a skeptic of climate change research.
