Nancy Reagan uses astrology to schedule husband's activities
The year is 1988, and the New York Times has reported on White House confirmation that President Ronald Reagan follows astrology. More precisely, both the president and the First Lady were reportedly deeply interested in astrology, with two former White House officials affirming that Mrs. Reagan astrologically based concerns had influenced the scheduling of important events.
California astrologer Joan Quigley had been consulted by the Reagans regarding key White House decisions, and during one photo-taking session, President Reagan was questioned on the matter of astrology’s influence on the president’s policies.
“No policy or decision, in my mind, has ever been influenced by astrology,” the president said.
President Nixon attends Kentucky Derby of 1969
President Richard Nixon was the first sitting president to ever grace the stands of the Kentucky Derby. In 1969, Nixon was accompanied by his wife, Pat, then-Gov. Earle Clements and Nancy Reagan, who were collectively rooting for Majestic Prince. But Nixon’s involvement in the races extended as far back as his term as vice president under Gerald Ford, and it was during this time that Nixon presented trophies at the Laurel and Bowie races. He also attended the derby as a presidential candidate in 1967.
Nine other presidents, albeit outside of their presidential term, have attended the Kentucky Derby, including George W. Bush in 2000; George H. W. Bush in 1993, 1995 and 2000; Jimmy Carter in 1983 and Donald Trump in 1999.
