Trump Travel Ban Extended: Restrictions Include North Korea, Venezuela, Chad
"My highest obligation is to ensure the safety and security of the American people," Trump said in a statement.

WASHINGTON, DC — North Korea, Chad and Venezuela will all be included in a new version of the travel ban that restricts entry to the United States based on an individual's country of origin, President Trump announced Sunday night.
Entry for residents of Libya, Yemen, Iran and Syria will still be restricted under a new executive order. In a statement, the White House said that the new restrictions were based on a country's meeting "baseline" requirements for traveler vetting and information sharing. The countries included in the new version of the ban do not meet this baseline, the White House said.
In addition, Iraq reportedly does not meet the baseline requirements either, but residents of the country will not face the same travel restrictions as those coming from the other nations listed. Iraqi residents will be subject to "additional scrutiny" by the Department of Homeland Security. And while Somalia did meet the baseline requirements for traveler vetting and information sharing, the department said the country still presents "special circumstances that warrant specific restrictions and security enhancements."
"The restrictions being imposed on these eight countries are conditional and may be lifted as they work with the United States Government to ensure the safety of Americans," the White House said in a statement. "We look forward to all countries meeting the new requirements for cooperation with the United States as we continue to take steps necessary to protect our national security."

"Following an extensive review by the Department of Homeland Security, we are taking action today to protect the safety and security of the American people by establishing a minimum security baseline for entry into the United States," Trump said. "We cannot afford to continue the failed policies of the past, which present an unacceptable danger to our country. My highest obligation is to ensure the safety and security of the American people, and in issuing this new travel order, I am fulfilling that sacred obligation."
After the new restrictions were announced, the State Department released the following statement: "With this Proclamation, the President is carrying out his duty to protect the American people. The State Department will coordinate with other federal agencies to implement these measures in an orderly manner. We will continue to work closely with our allies and partners who share our commitment to national and global security."
