Hometown: Marlborough, MA
Birthday: Sept. 16
Bio: Josh Gray is a native of the Boston area, and has loved to write for as long as he can remember.
He has recently relocated to Marlborough, from Nantucket island where he worked for The Inquirer & Mirror newspaper as a staff writer. While with the paper, they received numerous accolades from NENA and NEPA, including Newspaper of the Year.
While on Nantucket, Josh covered a variety subjects that included arts and entertainment, living, religion, business, and some breaking news. During that time he had the opportunity to cover many exciting events including the annual film and comedy festivals where he interviewed such well known celebrities as Jerry Stiller, Zach Galifianakis, Sarah Silverman, Barry Levinson, NBC's Brian Williams and many more.
Josh grew up all over the place including Maine, Maryland, and even Mumbai, India, but has always known Massachusetts to be home. Educated in the seminary, Josh chose a change of direction after leaving college stepping into journalism full time, and never looking back. He also loves to travel and has spent time all over the globe, with his favorite spot being Istanbul, Turkey.
Moving to Marlborough has been a return to his roots. With much of his family and close friends in the area, he has spent a lot of time playing baseball at the fields off Concord Road, catching a movie at the Solomon Pond Mall, or just hanging out at his favorite restaurants on Main Street.
Beliefs
At Patch, we promise always to report the facts as objectively as possible and otherwise adhere to the principles of good journalism. However, we also acknowledge that true impartiality is impossible because human beings have beliefs. So in the spirit of simple honesty, our policy is to encourage our editors to reveal their beliefs to the extent they feel comfortable. This disclosure is not a license for you to inject your beliefs into stories or to dictate coverage according to them. In fact, the intent is the opposite: we hope that the knowledge that your beliefs are on the record will cause you to be ever mindful to write, report and edit in a fair, balanced way. And if you ever see evidence that we failed in this mission, please let us know.
Politics
Politically, I am moderately conservative on a lot of issues, though I am a registered Democrat. While this may seem like a contradiction, I believe in doing everything possible to make my voice heard. So, in Massachusetts, a state known to vote heavily democratic and independent, I like to join the process of choosing our elected leaders early by having a say in our democratic primaries.
I do not, however, ever vote on party lines, preferring instead to mark my ballot as my conscience dictates.
Religion
I am a practicing Christian and the son of a pastor and missionary. My faith means a great deal to me, and it has led me to know some amazing people all across the world.
Local Hot Button Issues
Obviously the economy is the first thing that comes to mind in many communities these days, and Marlborough is no different. In a time of high unemployment and budget cuts, there are things that are happening in our town everyday, that will not only affect us, but also the ones we love. Marlborough Patch will be on top of these very important issues, and much, much more.
