Boy Rescued From Frozen Lake By Deputy

NEW HARMONY, UT— Sheriff's Sgt. Aaron Thompson punched through the ice of a frozen pond in New Harmony to rescue a boy trapped below on Christmas Day.
The boy was airlifted to a hospital in St. George, Utah, after he was brought ashore. His condition has not been made public.
According to a report from the Washington County Sheriff's Office, the boy dashed onto the lake following his dog Monday night. Another child saw the boy break through the ice and plunge into the water below, the report said.

Thompson broke a path into the ice and travelled about 25 feet from the shore before he dove in and rescued the child, according to sheriff's Lt. David Crouse.
The deputy was treated for cuts, bruises and symptoms of hypothermia and was released from Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George, spokeswoman Terri Draper said Tuesday.
