1 Person Critically Injured In Salt Lake City Shooting Possibly Related To Protest: Police

Police are asking the public to leave the demonstration, where 10,000 people were reported to have gathered, in a safe and orderly manner.

SALT LAKE CITY, UT — One person was critically injured in a Salt Lake City shooting, possibly related to a demonstration, police said.

According to the Salt Lake City Police Department on X: "We can confirm the shooting resulted in one person being critically injured. The patient has been taken to a hospital with life-threatening injures. Officers are asking people to leave safely and orderly. This remains a very fluid situation."

According to an earlier post by the Salt Lake City Police Department on X: "We are investigating a shooting possibly associated with the demonstration near 200 South State Street. We have multiple law enforcement units in the area trying to verify information and to determine if there is a victim. We have a person of interest in custody."

Police added: "We are asking people to leave the demonstration safely and orderly."

Earlier on Saturday, Salt Lake City police said a group of demonstrators was marching through downtown, leaving Pioneer Park. "As a reminder, this is a permitted march," police said.

The group, estimated to be 10,000 people, was expected to go east on 400 South to State Street and then go north, police said.

"Our officers are providing traffic control to help ensure the safety of participants and our community. Please expect temporary delays in the area and seek alternate routes. We appreciate everyone’s patience as we work to ensure a peaceful and safe environment for all. Our role at this event is to support public safety and the lawful expression of First Amendment rights," police said.

"No Kings" rallies were organized nationwide to coincide with a military parade commemorating the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary that falls on Donald Trump’s 79th birthday. June 14 is also Flag Day. Police did not immediately indicate if the rally in question was a "No Kings" protest.
