Here are the top three stories in Salt Lake City today:
- For the first time, the chronic wasting disease has been detected in a Salt Lake County deer. The disease was found by the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources near North Salt Lake and Bountiful through four deer. The disease affects the deer's nervous system, causing brain lesions. (Salt Lake Tribune)
- Salt Lake County pools are managing to open despite the ongoing lifeguard shortage. The Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation department raised pay from $9 an hour to $15.5 an hour in an attempt to attract lifeguards β it is reportedly working. The pools in Riverton and Magna opened on Friday. (ABC4.com)
- Salt Lake City has named a bridge honoring Robert "Archie" Archuleta. The bridge between North Temple and 200 South has been renamed to honor Archuleta's lifelong fight for social justice. Along the bridge, collages of photographs featuring Archuleta have been displayed. The Archuleta Bridge was dedicated during a ceremony on Friday. (Salt Lake Tribune)
