5 Killed In Fiery Plane Crash: VA State Police

BATH COUNTY, VA — Five people are dead after a private jet crashed Sunday afternoon in rural western Virginia, according to police.

The incident occurred around 3 p.m. in the area of Hot Springs in Bath County, where the twin-engine 1125 Westwind Astra went down in the woods in the 6200 block of Airport Road near Ingalls Field Airport, authorities said.

The plane caught fire on impact and its occupants — four adults and a child — died at the scene, according to police.

The flight had departed from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and was not expected to land at Ingalls Field, WDBJ reported.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.
