Dog Fatally Mauls Baby Girl In Virginia: Reports
An 8-day-old girl was killed in Jonesville when the family dog attacked her in her bassinet, reports say.
JONESVILLE, VA — An 8-day-old baby died after the family dog mauled her in Jonesville, according to reports.
Kingsport Times-News reports the incident occurred at about 11:40 a.m. Wednesday. Lee County Sheriff Gary Parsons said the dog was a "large shepherd type" and attacked the infant when she was in a bassinet.
The baby girl passed away at UT Medical Center around 4 p.m. She suffered head and upper body injuries, police said.

The sheriff's office is working with the Lee County Department of Social Services and the county animal control department to look into the incident further. The family has two older children.
ABC6 says the dog has been euthanized.
