Wildly Popular Convenience Store To Open First VA Location Soon

The iconic convenience store chain Buc-ee's is on track to open its first Virginia travel center in Rockingham County in about a month.

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA — The iconic convenience store chain Buc-ee’s is on track to open its first Virginia travel center in Rockingham County on June 30, reports said.

The beloved Texas-based chain — known for its exceptionally clean restrooms, house-made food and beaver-branded merchandise — broke ground on the Virginia site in 2024.

The Virginia center will be Buc-ee’s most northeast location in the country, opening the brand to a new customer base, FOX Business News reported.

Another Buc-ee’s planned for New Kent County was announced in 2023, but has been postponed to 2027. The chain plans to have four total Virginia locations in the coming years, the MoCo Show reported.

That news site discounted online chatter that a Buc-ee’s location is coming to the I-81 corridor near Hagerstown, Maryland.

"Thank you Buc-ee’s for choosing Rockingham County for your first Virginia location that is slated to open in mid-2025," the Virginia county said last year.

Gov. Glenn Youngkin welcomed the chain when the expansion began in early 2024, noting the groundbreaking in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

Buc-ee’s favorites include Texas barbeque, homemade fudge, kolaches, Beaver Nuggets, jerky and fresh pastries, the company website said.

Located at the intersection of I-81 and Friedens Church Road, the Mount Crawford center will have 120 fueling positions. The chain expects to create 200 jobs with the gas station and convenience store.

Since beginning its multi-state expansion in 2019, Buc-ee’s has opened travel centers in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, Tennessee, Missouri, and Colorado.
