Here’s Where Designers In VA Are Going For The Best Antique Finds

You never know what you might find picking over someone else’s family heirlooms and other cast-offs at Virginia antique and second-hand finds.

If you’re looking for the ultimate secondhand store experience, HGTV says to head to Vintage Glass and Pottery, West End Antiques Mall, Project1 Home Furnishings, Verve Home Furnishings, Kim Faison Antiques, Justin Westbrook Antiques, Class and Trash, Sheppard Street Antiques and Gramercy Collective, all in Richmond; Governor’s Architectural Salvage and Mechanicsville Antiques & Collectibles, Mechanicsville; Caravati’s, Ashland; and RVA Antiques and Home Decor, Henrico.

The stores on the new HGTV list are a haven for people who enjoy the thrill of the hunt for items with unique historic or aesthetic appeal and other hidden treasures, according to design professionals who haunt them.

For the “Antique Stores Designers Love, State by State,” HGTV asked professional designers from around the country to share their favorite local gems for antique, vintage, and thrifted decor. HGTV said of these stores in Virginia:

“Richmond has a treasure trove of hidden haunts,” said Virginia designer Ashley Hanley. “If you’re looking for a few pieces of china or glasses to complete a larger set for an upcoming dinner party, my favorite place to shop is Vintage Glass and Pottery.”

West End Antiques Mall is a 53,000 square foot, booth-style spot that’s perfect if you’re on the hunt for “a bit of everything.” For fine antiques, Hanley recommends Kim Faison Antiques (for curated European pieces) and Justin Westbrook (for quality English and European period pieces). Governor’s Architectural Salvage and Caravati’s are her go-tos for architectural salvage, “or for finding antique hardware, plumbing and lighting to add back into historic homes.”

"Antique Row also shines in the accessory department,” Maryland designer Regan Billingsley said. “When I've wanted to add to my silver collection or find just the right paperweight to keep a stack of papers tidy, I browse the maze of shops in Antique Village [a multi-dealer market] for glassware, silver and the offbeat vintage accessory.”

“The best things to gather as you crisscross the country are, of course, the memories you make along the way,” HGTV said. “New-to-you home finds that’ll make your own space even cooler, now — those are pretty good, too.”
