BEDFORD COUNTY, VA — A Metallica concert inadvertently saved the lives of a Virginia couple earlier this month, according to their daughter.

The day before the legendary rock band was scheduled to perform at Virginia Tech's Lane Stadium, Madeline McKee's parents decided to go to bed early to prepare for the May 7 concert, the 14-year-old told WDBJ.

A few hours later, the family was awakened by a loud explosion and the shattering of glass.

The Stewartsville-Chamblissburg Volunteer Fire Department said a pickup truck plowed into the family's home around 2 a.m. Despite the home sustaining damage, no one was injured in the mishap.

According to Madeline McKee, her parents would usually be up watching TV in the living room at that time. Because of the concert, they went to bed instead.

“We were so fortunate that that night, my daughter could walk down that hallway and (find) us in the rubble, and you know, I thank God every day and Metallica for saving us because that’s exactly what did it,” Madeline's mother, Kristin McKee, told WDBJ.

Following the incident, Madeline McKee decided to write the band a letter to thank them, according to a WIFR report.

“You saved my parents’ lives. I will be forever grateful. Good luck with the rest of your tour and hope to see you on the road. Sincerely, Maddie McKee,” the letter read.

The McKee family is hoping that they can return to their home in about six months, reports said.

Metallica's next show is Wednesday night in Washington, D.C., with stops planned in Charlotte, North Carolina, and Atlanta, Georgia, in the coming week. See the rest of their upcoming dates on the band's website.
