VIRGINIA — A new ranking has revealed the safest cities in every state, including Virginia.

Bridgewater in Rockingham County was named the safest town in Virginia, according to the 2025 State of Safety in America rankings from Safewise.com.

The report was released last month and named the safest cities in the country based on crime rates and other data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Safewise also surveyed residents in every state to find out their top safety concerns.

The ranking's purpose is to highlight cities with low per capita crime rates and "ignite conversation and action around how to make all cities and communities safer."

Here are the top 10 safest Virginia cities and towns, according to the ranking:

  2. Purcellville
  3. Buena Vista
  4. Blacksburg
  5. Lexington
  6. Vienna
  7. Warrenton
  8. Poquoson
  9. Dumfries
  10. Virginia Beach

Virginians feel a little less safe in the state compared to the previous year, according to the survey, but their confidence level still hovers around the national average of 48 percent. About 47 percent told Safewise they feel safe in Virginia, whereas last year's tally was 49 percent.

When it comes to overall safety and security, 46 percent of Virginians say they feel concerned daily. That's down from 49 percent the year before and slightly lower than the national average of 47 percent.
