UVA Cancels Shelter In Place, Classes To Resume Wednesday: Police
The University of Virginia has canceled a shelter in place order for students and staff; the suspect in a manhunt is believed to have fled.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA — A shelter in place order for the University of Virginia campus, including the medical center, has been canceled; the suspect in a manhunt is believed to have fled, police said.
University of Virginia's police searched for more tha four hours for a criminal suspect who is a gang. Police had expanded their search for the man to the Central Grounds and students and staff should continue to shelter in place in all areas, they said Tuesday at midday.

UVA academic classes were cancelled on Tuesday, and will resume Wednesday as normal.
The Albemarle County Police Department on social media identified the suspect as Nyheem Hill, who fled officers following an off-campus traffic stop near Ivy Road. The department said Hill has a known criminal history and gang affiliation; he has no known affiliation with UVA.

Police continue to search for Hill in the Lewis Mountain neighborhood near the campus, authorities said shortly before noon.

About 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, the UVA Police Division sent out a message on X, formerly known as Twitter, ordering students and staff to shelter in place. The emergency alert said officers were looking for a suspect in the area of Alderman Road.
Hill is described as a Black male, 6-feet 1-inch tall, weighs 170 pounds, and is wearing a grey hoodie. (See image below.) Anyone who sees the suspect is asked to call 911.
Authorities said Hill was on foot when he was last seen off-campus near Alderman Road and McCormick Road.
No shots have been fired and no injuries have been reported.
