This VA City Is The Most Caring In The Nation, New Ranking Says

VIRGINIA — Virginia Beach is the most caring city in the United States, according to a recent ranking.

To determine the most caring towns in America, WalletHub compared the 100 most populated cities across three key areas: caring for the community, caring for the vulnerable and caring in the workforce.

WalletHub then evaluated those areas using more than three dozen metrics. Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale, with 100 representing the highest level of caring.

"The most caring cities donate a lot of money to charity and have high volunteer rates, but being a caring city overall requires much more than just giving time or money," WalletHub analyst Chip Lupo said in a statement. "Residents also display their care for others by working in professions that help others — like teaching, social work, firefighting and medicine — at high rates."

Virginia Beach is the most caring city in 2024 largely due to its residents ranking first in the nation for volunteering hours. The city also has the fourth-highest share of residents who fundraise or sell items to raise money for charity.

Despite its status as a party city, Virginia Beach does a great job keeping residents safe, according to the ranking. The city has the second-lowest violent crime rate in the country and the eighth-lowest property crime rate. This indicates that people care about their neighbors, WalletHub analysts said.

Chesapeake, the second-largest city in Virginia, also came in at No. 5 on the list.
