A customer noticed suspicious activity on a credit card and contacted police; police found the device at an Annandale gas station.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA -- A skimming device was found at a gas pump in Annandale, Fairfax County Police said Thursday.

"Skimming" is a method used by criminals to capture data from the magnetic stripe on the back of an ATM card. Devices used are smaller than a deck of cards and are often fastened in close proximity to or over the top of the ATM's factory-installed card reader.

The skimming device was found Wednesday morning at the Exxon gas station in the 3400 block of Holly Road (see map below). The device was found after a customer noticed suspicious activity on a credit card account.
