2 Die In 5-Vehicle Collision On I-495 Inner Loop In Fairfax County
Two people died from injuries they received in a five-vehicle collision on the Inner Loop of the Capital Beltway Wednesday night in Fairfax.

ANNANDALE, VA — Two people died from injuries they received in a five-vehicle collision that occurred Wednesday night on the Inner Loop of the Capital Beltway in Fairfax County, according to a release from the Virginia State Police.
VSP troopers responded around 7:53 p.m., for the report of a crash involving as tractor-trailer and a sedan on the northbound main lanes of I-495 near Braddock Road. Following the crash, the sedan came to a stop on the left shoulder of the express lanes, according to the release.

Police identified 71-year-old Robert A. Blakely of Washington, D.C. one of the fatalities on Thursday morning. Blakely was ejected from the 2019 Ford F-150 pickup truck he was driving and died at the scene, according to police.
The second fatality was the driver of a tractor-trailer involved in the collision. An SUV traveling northbound in the express lanes struck the tractor-trailer driver, who had exited his vehicle and was running across the express lanes, police said.

The tractor-trailer driver was taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital to be treated for his injuries, but he later died, according to police.
A passenger in one of the other vehicles involved in the multi-vehicle crash was treated for minor injuries.
All of the express lanes and some of the northbound main lanes of the Inner Loop prior to the exit for Little River Turnpike/Route 236 remained closed for several hours to allow VSP investigators to examine the crash scene.
All lanes reopened to traffic shortly before 1 a.m., according to WTOP Traffic.
