2 People Killed In Early Morning Crash In Arlington On July 4
Two people died in a crash in Arlington early in the morning on July 4 when a car caught fire after crashing into a tree, police said.
ARLINGTON, VA — Two people died in a single-vehicle crash in Arlington early in the morning on July 4 when the driver of a car crashed into a tree, according to the Arlington County Police Department.
Shortly after 2 a.m. on Tuesday, police were dispatched to S. Walter Reed Drive at S. Dinwiddie Street for the report of a vehicle fire. The car that caught fire was traveling southbound on Walter Reed Drive when it left the roadway, entered the median and struck a tree, police said.
The driver of the car, who was pronounced dead at the scene, has been identified as 23-year-old Furkan Avkan of Alexandria, according to police. A passenger, who had to be removed from the car, died at a hospital. She has been identified 21-year-old Habiba Harbaoui, who was visiting the area from Tunisia.

Another passenger who had to be removed from the car was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition, police said.
