What's Open, Closed For Christmas 2025 In Arlington

ARLINGTON, VA — Christmas falls on Thursday, Dec. 25 this year, bringing a holiday break for students and employees.

Government offices, schools and some businesses will close for the holiday observance. Many government offices and services will also be closed on Thursday, with some closing early on Wednesday.

Here are all the openings and closings to know around Arlington for Christmas on Thursday.

Arlington County Government offices and services are operating on modified schedules for the Christmas holiday on Thursday, Dec. 25, and Friday, Dec. 26, 2025.

Courts: The Arlington Circuit Court, General District Court, Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court will be closed Wednesday, Dec. 24-Friday, Dec. 26.

Commissioner of the Revenue: Closed at 12 noon on Wednesday, Dec. 24 and closed on Thursday, Dec. 25 and Friday, Dec. 26.

Permitting and Inspection Services: Permit Arlington Center will close at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 24. Permit Arlington phone lines will be closed on Thursday, Dec. 25 and Friday, Dec. 26.

Parking: Permit parking is always in effect unless specifically noted on the sign. Meters are not enforced on holidays.

Libraries: Arlington Public Libraries will close at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 24. All libraries will be closed on Dec. 25 and 26.

Trash Pickup & Recycling:

• Recycling/Trash/Organics Curbside Routes – No collection on Thursday, Dec. 25. Thursday routes will be serviced on Friday, Dec. 26; Friday routes will be serviced on Saturday, Dec. 27.
• Special Collections (Brush, Metal, E-waste) – No collection on Thursday, Dec. 25. Thursday routes will be serviced on Friday, Dec. 26; Friday routes will be serviced on Saturday, Dec. 27.
• Household Hazardous Materials/Electronics Collection Recycling Center – Closed until Monday, Dec. 29
• Earth Products Recycling Yard – Closed until Monday, Dec. 29

Department of Motor Vehicles: DMV Select at Bozman Government Center at Window 218 will close at 12 noon on Wednesday, Dec. 24. All Virginia DMV locations will be closed on Dec. 25 and 26.

ART: On Thursday, Dec. 25, ART 41, 42, 45, 51, 55, and 87 will operate on Sunday schedules. All other ART routes will not operate.

Metro: Dec. 24 will have a regular weekday schedule from 5 a.m. to midnight. Dec. 25 will bring a reduced Sunday service schedule to Metrorail from 6 a.m. to midnight.

Parks & Recreation Facilities & Programs:

• Wednesday, Dec. 24: All community centers including Long Bridge Aquatics & Fitness Center will close at 1 p.m.
• Thursday, Dec. 25 and Friday, Dec. 26: All community centers including Long Bridge Aquatics & Fitness Center are closed. Administrative offices closed.

Cultural Affairs:

• 3700 S. Four Mile Run Drive/Theatre on the Run: Closed Wednesday, Dec. 24 through Friday, Dec. 26.
• The Studios at Arlington Arts: Closed Wednesday, Dec. 24 through Friday, Dec. 26.
• Scenery Studio: Open 10am to 6pm on Wednesday, Dec. 24; Closed Thursday, Dec. 25 and Friday, Dec. 26.

Animal Welfare League of Arlington: Open Wednesday, Dec. 24, 12 to 5 p.m. and closed on Thursday, Dec. 25.

Sheriff's Office: Detention Center Visiting Hours. Please note, no fingerprinting services will occur at the ACSO since courts are closed.

ABC Stores: Virginia ABC stores will close at 6 p.m. on Dec. 24 and be closed on Dec. 25.

Metro: Dec. 24 will have a regular weekday schedule from 5 a.m. to midnight. Dec. 25 will bring a reduced Sunday service schedule to Metrorail from 6 a.m. to midnight.

Post offices: Closed on Dec. 25.
