2 Suspects In 2024 Columbia Heights Shooting Charged

Two Maryland men were the second and third suspects arreted in the Sept. 2, 2024 shooting incident on South Ross Street, according to ACPD.

ARLINGTON, VA — Detectives with the Arlington County Police Department arrested two suspects in connection to a shooting that occurred Sept. 24, 2024 just north of the Army Navy Country Club. These are the second and third suspects arrested in connection to that incident.

Delante Thompson, 30, of Baltimore and Davon Harris of Waldorf, Maryland were apprehended on July 24 with the help of the Maryland State Police and Charles County Sheriff’s Office, according to police. Both suspects were extradited to Virginia and are being held without bond at the Arlington County Detention Center.

On Sept. 2, 2024, officers responded around 1:56 p.m., for multiple reports of gunshots being heard in the 1200 block of S. Ross Street in the Columbia Pike neighborhood.

Investigators determined that two groups involved in an argument, during which members from both groups displayed firearms, which they discharged, according to police. No injuries were reported

One group left the scene of the shootings in a vehicle, while the second group fled on foot. Police located the group on foot, detaining them in the 1300 block of S. Scott Street. Police said they recovered a firearm during their investigation.

Police charged both Thompson and Harris with two counts each of abduction, use of a firearm during the commission of a felony, attempted aggravated malicious wounding, and conspiracy to commit aggravated malicious wounding, according to ACPD.

Thompson was also charged with preventing a call to 911, destruction of property, reckless handling of a firearm, and two counts of felon in possession of a firearm. Harris was also charged with Destruction of property, according to the police report.

In September 2024, ACPD arrested 26-year-old Patrick Nya of an undetermined address in connection with this case. He was charged with reckless handling of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and attempted shooting missiles at an occupied vehicle.

As of Thursday, Nya's case was under review and he has a Jan. 5, 2026 hearing in Arlington General District Court, according to court documents. He remains in custody.

Harris was arraigned on Thursday in Arlington General District Court and a preliminary hearing was set for Sept. 29, according to court documents. With the exception of the destuction of property charge, which is a Class 1 misdemeanor, all seven of Harris' remaining charges are felonies.

No information was available about Thompson's case in the court records.
