Airbags Stolen From 13 Hondas In South Arlington: Police

Airbags were stolen from more than a dozen vehicles Monday night in an Arlington neighborhood near S. Glebe Road, police said.

ARLINGTON, VA — Airbags were stolen from more than a dozen vehicles Monday night in a neighborhood near South Glebe Road, just south of the Shirley Highway, according to the Arlington County Police Department.

About 5:40 a.m. on Tuesday, police officers were dispatched to the area for the report of the airbag thefts. Police determined that sometime Monday night or early Tuesday morning, suspects broke into about 13 vehicles in the area, damaging the driver’s side door handle and stealing the airbag.

All the vehicles were described as Honda models, police said. The thefts continue a local and nationwide trend of thieves breaking into vehicles, many of which are Hondas, and stealing their airbags.

The thieves could be stealing newer airbags from Hondas and then selling them to questionable repair shops or unsuspecting online customers at a price far below the $2,000 cost of replacing them, USA Today reported.

In these latest thefts, the suspects stole airbags from vehicles in the 1400 block and 1300 block of 28th Street S. and the 2600 block of S. Adam Street.
