Alexandria Police Help In Arrest Of 2 Arlington Burglary Suspects

An Arlington Mill resident confronted two burglars inside his home early Tuesday morning, according to police.

ARLINGTON, VA — An Arlington Ridge resident contacted police after encountering two men who entered and stole items from his home early Tuesday morning, according to authorities.

Arlington County Police responded around 4:12 a.m. for the report of a burglary in the 3100 block of South Glebe Road. The victim told the officers that he had confronted the two men, who then fled the scene on foot, according to the incident report.

A lookout was broadcast and the responding officers located the suspects in the 3900 block of Mount Vernon Avenue with the help of the Alexandria Police Department, according to police. During their investigation, police recovered electronics, jewelry, clothing and alcohol that were stolen from the victim’s residence.

Bryan Portillo Ortiz, 24, of an undetermined address was arrested and charged with burglary and larceny with intent to sell, according to the report. Police also arrested 19-year-old Yonatan Bran Martinez of Alexandria, charging him with receiving stolen goods. Both men were then held without bond.

Both suspects were scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday morning in Arlington County District Court, according to court documents. Their preliminary hearings were set for Sept. 25.

The burglary with intent to sell or distribute charge is a Class 3 felony, under the Code of Virginia. If convicted, Protillo Ortiz faces a potential prison sentence of five to 20 years and a fine of up to $100,000. The larceny with intent to sell charge is an unclassified felony.

The receiving or buying stolen goods of less than $1,000 in value charge is a Class 1 misdemeanor. Bran Martinez faces a potential jail sentence of up to one year and/or a fine of up to $2,500, under Virginia law.
