Amazon Trying To Put A Helipad In Crystal City: Report

Fresh off their announcement that Crystal City would be their second headquarters, Amazon reportedly is making a bold push for a helipad.

ARLINGTON, VA -- Because it sits right next to Reagan National Airport, right down the street from the Pentagon, and right across the river from the National Mall, airspace around Crystal City is very, very tight. However, that isn't stopping Crystal City's future resident, Amazon, from attempting to get a helipad installed there, according to a report.

DCist reports that Amazon wants a helipad at both of its "second headquarters" in Crystal City and Long Island City. They're working with government officials to figure out a way to navigate the tight restrictions governing these airspaces.

Only Amazon has the muscle to even have a chance at getting around the tremendous red tape, and even they may find their efforts ultimately futile, DCist notes. Officials may tell Amazon they'll just have to use Reagan Airport.

But that isn't stopping them from trying.

“We are still in the early days of the project, so we don’t have specifics about how the helipad will be used at our new headquarters. We included it in our negotiations in order to look around corners and prepare for the future, and also to be fully transparent to the public,” said an Amazon spokesperson, according to the report.
