Arlington Man Accused Of Sexual Assault In Clarendon Incident: Police
An Arlington man has been charged with sexual assault in connection with an incident that occurred on May 21 in Clarendon, police said.

ARLINGTON, VA — An Arlington man has been charged with sexual assault in connection with an incident that occurred in the early morning hours of May 21 in Clarendon, according to the Arlington County Police Department.
Julio Basurto, 42, was taken into custody last Thursday and charged with abduction and forcible sodomy, police said Monday. He is being held in the Arlington County Detention Facility.
Shortly after 6:40 a.m. on May 21, police met with a woman who reported a sexual assault inside a vehicle. Police said they determined that during the early morning hours of May 21, the woman left a "nightlife establishment" and was in the 3100 block of Clarendon Boulevard when Basurto approached in a black vehicle and the woman got into the vehicle.

While in the vehicle, the woman was sexually assaulted, according to police. Basurto was not operating as a ride-share driver or was not in a for-hire status, police noted.
As part of their investigation, police reviewed evidence and conducted witness interviews that led detectives to identify Basurto as the suspect and obtain warrants for his arrest.

ARLnow reported Monday that Basurto is a community activist who has been outspoken on local issues such as drug overdoses in schools and conditions in affordable apartment complexes.
