Arlington Man Charged After Shooting During Fight Over Gun: Police

An Arlington man was arrested in connection with a shooting on Wednesday in the Green Valley neighborhood, according to county police.

Chase Smith, 21, was charged with attempted aggravated malicious wounding in connection with an incident on Wednesday and was being held on a $3,500 secured bond in the Arlington County jail, police said.

ARLINGTON, VA — An Arlington man was arrested in connection with a shooting on Wednesday in the Green Valley neighborhood, according to the Arlington County Police Department.

Chase Smith, 21, was charged with attempted aggravated malicious wounding and discharge of a firearm within 1,000 feet of a school and was being held on a $3,500 secured bond in the Arlington County jail, police said.

Around 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, police were dispatched to the 2200 block of S. Kenmore Street in Arlington for the report of a fight involving a gun. Smith ran from the scene before police arrived at the scene, police said.

Police officers were able to find Smith in the 3400 block of 22nd Street South and take him into custody without incident, police said.

In their investigation, police determined that Smith and the victim got into an argument when Smith then displayed a gun. The two fought over the gun when a shot was fired, according to police.

No injuries were reported in the shooting. A firearm was recovered on scene, police said. Smith and the victim were taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries from the fight, according to police.
