Arlington Man Charged With Assault After Overnight Standoff: Police

An Arlington man was taken into custody at his residence in the Buckingham neighborhood after assaulting two people, police said.

ARLINGTON, VA — An Arlington man was taken into custody early Thursday morning at his residence in the Buckingham neighborhood after assaulting two people earlier in the night, according to the Arlington County police.

Jermaine Chambers, 43, was charged with attempted malicious wounding, burglary with intent to commit assault and two counts of assault battery, police said. He is being held without bond in the Arlington County Detention Facility.

Shortly before 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, Arlington County police were dispatched to the 4200 block of 2nd Road N. for the report of a possible assault with a weapon. Upon arrival, it was determined the suspect forced his way into a residence, pulled a knife, threatened and physically assaulted a female and male victim before fleeing the residence on foot, police said.

The male victim was treated on the scene by medics for injuries considered non-life threatening. The female victim did not require medical treatment, according to police. Both victims were known to Chambers, police said.

Police said officers searched the area for the suspect with help from the Fairfax County Police Department’s helicopter and determined he had returned to his residence in the 200 block of N. Thomas Street.

Officers established a perimeter around Chambers' apartment building, made telephone contact, and started negotiations with him. After initially refusing to come out, Chambers was eventually taken into custody without incident, according to police.
