Arlington Man Faces Multiple Charges In Connection With Douglas Park Shooting

A 20-year-old Arlington resident was arrested in connection with a late-night shooting last Thursday in the Douglas Park neighborhood.

ARLINGTON, VA — A 20-year-old Arlington resident was arrested in connection with a shooting last Thursday night in the Douglas Park neighborhood, police said Monday.

After his arrest on Friday, Esnayder Perla Alvarenga was charged with two counts of attempted malicious wounding and malicious shooting at a vehicle and is being held without bond in the Arlington County Detention Facility, according to police.

At about 11:30 p.m. on April 13, police were dispatched to the 4200 block of S. Four Mile Run Drive for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, it was determined that the two victims and two suspects, who are acquaintances, were in a parking garage when they started arguing.

Alvarenga then brandished a firearm while the other suspect assaulted one of the victims, according to police. The victims then got into their vehicle and drove off. As they were driving away, Alvarenga fired his gun, striking the vehicle, police said.

No injuries were reported in the shooting.

Officers with the Arlington County Police Department’s Homicide/Robbery Unit were able to identify Alvarenga and obtained warrants for his arrest. He was taken into custody without incident Friday night in the 2700 block of S. Fern Street. Officers recovered a loaded firearm with Alvarenga, police said.

Police said they are still trying to identify the suspect who assaulted one of the victims.

Alvarenga was also charged with use of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, carrying a concealed weapon, reckless handling of a firearm, and brandishing a firearm.
