Arlington Police Investigate Attempted Carjackings Near Pentagon
Police are investigating attempted carjackings that occurred early Monday morning near the Pentagon along Boundary Channel Dr. and I-395.
ARLINGTON, VA — Arlington County Police Department officers are investigating two attempted carjackings that occurred early Monday morning near the Pentagon along Boundary Channel Drive at Interstate 395.
Around 12:15 a.m. Monday, the suspect approached a car that was on the ramp for northbound I-395 from Boundary Channel Drive and started banging on the driver’s windshield and demanded the driver get out of the vehicle. The suspect had an unknown object in his hand, police said.
The woman got out of her car and ran down the ramp. The suspect got into her vehicle but was unable to drive it, according to police. ARLnow reported that the suspect was confused by the stick shift of the car that he was trying to steal, according to Arlington Police radio traffic.

After Arlington County Police officers arrived on the scene, another driver contacted the county's Emergency Communications Center to report an attempted carjacking. The male victim said he had been travelling on the ramp for northbound I-395 from Boundary Channel Drive when a suspect matching the description given by the first victim jumped in front of his vehicle, banged on the hood and demanded he get out.
The man accelerated his vehicle, making contact with the suspect, and left the area before calling police. The suspect was last seen running across I-395 toward the exit for the George Washington Memorial Parkway, according to police.

Police established a perimeter around the area and broadcast a lookout for the suspect. Police helicopters help with a search of the area. But police have yet to find the suspect.
Neither victim was injured, police said.
The suspect is described as a white male with a slim build, approximately 30 years old, 6-feet tall, with a dark buzz cut hair, wearing a white short-sleeved shirt and dark pants, police said.
