Police officers created a perimeter as the suspect remained barricaded inside the bank with employees and customers. Members of the police department's Emergency Response Team approached the bank and gave the suspect commands. He was then taken into custody without incident shortly after 4 p.m., police said.
The customers and employees — four adults and one child — safely exited the bank. All were evaluated on the scene by medics as a precaution, and no injuries were reported, according to police.
An eyewitness posted a video to Twitter that showed a man being led away from the bank in handcuffs.
"The safety and security of our customers and employees is our most important priority, and we are incredibly relieved and grateful that the situation has been resolved with no physical injuries to any of our employees or customers," Wells Fargo said in a statement.
Police said no cash was stolen from the bank, and no weapon was found at the scene. After resolving the situation, police stayed on the scene to continue their investigation.
"We are appreciative of the work of the Arlington Police Department in reaching a peaceful resolution and will continue to do everything we can to assist authorities as they investigate the situation," Wells Fargo said.
