Assault With Bottle Results In Malicious Wounding Charge: ACPD

ARLINGTON, VA — A 29-year-old Arlington man is facing a malicious wounding charge in connection to an assault that occurred early Saturday morning in the Barcroft area, according to authorities.

Officers from the Arlington County Police Department responded around 2:17 a.m. to the 4100 block of Columbia Pike for the report of an assault with weapon and injury, according to the incident report.

“Upon arrival, it was determined the male victim attempted to break up a physical altercation outside of a business when one of the individuals involved in the altercation allegedly struck him with a glass bottle, causing a laceration,” according to police. “The suspect then fled the scene on foot.”

The victim, who was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at the scene, declined to be taken to the hospital for further treatment, according to police.

After a lookout was broadcast, officers located a man who matched the description of the suspect in the 900 block of North Randolph Street. Police arrested Everth Escobar of Arlington and charged him with malicious wounding and public intoxication, according to ACPD.

On Monday morning, Escobar was arraigned in Arlington General District Court and a preliminary hearing was set for 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 28, according to court documents.

If convicted of the malicious wounding charge, which is a Class 3 felony, Escobar faces a possible prison sentence of five to 20 years and a fine of up to $100,000, under the Code of Virginia.
