ARLINGTON, VA — Arlington County Board Member Maureen Coffey was appointed temporary board chair during a brief meeting on Thursday afternoon. She will act as board chair from 12 p.m., on Friday, Oct. 3 to 12 a.m. on Oct. 12.

Board Chair Takis Karantonis convened a special meeting around 2:35 p.m. on Thursday, with Coffey and fellow Board Members Susan Cunningham and Julius D. "JD" Spain Sr. in attendance.

Karantonis announced that he was going to be out of town from Friday afternoon until Saturday, Oct. 11 to attend a conference in Germany. Since Vice Chair Matt de Ferranti was absent on paternity leave, the board needed to name a temporary chair to fill in while Karantonis was away.
