Delegate Lopez Applauds Record Setting Environmental Settlement

The $50 Million settlement is a major victory for Virginia's environment.

From Virgina: Today, the Commonwealth of Virginia announced a $50 million settlement with Dupont chemical company to mitigate decades-old mercury contamination of the Shenandoah River System. Delegate Lopez (D-Arlington), chair of Virginia’s Environment and Renewable Energy Caucus, praised the settlement in the following statement:

“This record setting settlement is a major victory for Virginia’s waterways. I applaud the Governor and Attorney General for working tirelessly to ensure a settlement was reached. We should be doing everything we can to protect our rivers from pollution because they are such a vital natural and economic resource for the Commonwealth. This settlement sends a clear message to polluters that there are serious financial consequences for disregarding the health of Virginia’s waterways. I look forward to working with the Governor to ensure these funds are used appropriately to protect and preserve our rivers for many years to come.”
