Demolition Of Crystal City Bridge Approved By Arlington County
The Arlington County Board voted unanimously to approve a multi-million dollar contract to demolish the Crystal City bridge.

ARLINGTON, VA — The Arlington County Board voted unanimously to approve a multi-million dollar contract to demolish Crystal City bridge on South Clark Street roadway.
The $6.6 million contract with Neuber Environmental Services, Inc. is in accordance with the Crystal City Sector Plan, and was approved by the board Sept. 16.The demolition will remove the elevated South Clark Street roadway in Crystal City, between 12th and 20th Streets South.
Board members believe removing the structure will improve the street network and create more development space on the east side of Route 1.

After the roadway and its overhead bridges are removed, new retaining walls, stormwater facilities, grass pavers and landscaping will be added. Traffic signal upgrades also will be installed at the intersection of 20th Street South and Route 1, according to a press release.
Demolition is anticipated to start later this fall, officials said. Updates will be provided on the project page and through Patch.
