Essy's Carriage House In Cherrydale To Close At End Of March: Report
Essy's Carriage House Restaurant, open for nearly 50 years, is planning to close at the end of March, Charlie Clark reported Friday.

ARLINGTON, VA — Essy’s Carriage House Restaurant in Arlington’s Cherrydale neighborhood is planning to close its doors at the end of March after 48 years in business, according to local reporter and historian Charlie Clark.
At a recent lunch at Essy’s, Clark learned that owner Essy Saedi and his wife Janet, who serves as executive chef of the restaurant, had decided to retire. Saedi, an Iranian immigrant, came to the United States in 1962.
Essy’s landlord hopes to sell the restaurant building and rear parking lot to a developer who would create new apartments, Clark reported Friday in his "Our Man in Arlington" column for the Falls Church News-Press.

On its website, Essy's describes itself as "an original Arlington American classic restaurant with a creative menu, relaxing interior, and friendly service."
"Essy has lived in Arlington for over 50 years and you will find him each and every day at the Carriage House to welcome new and familiar faces alike," the website says.

Evening business at Essy's was "actually decent" during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic due to take-out orders, Saedi said.
When the restaurant closes, Saedi told Clark he plans to auction its period-piece furniture.
