Felony Charges Filed In Ballston Tobacco Shop Robberies

ARLINGTON, VA — A 21-year-old man is facing multiple charges, including aggravated malicious wounding, in connection to a serious of robberies by force that occurred over the last year at a Ballston tobacco shop, according to police.

Arlington County Police officers responded just before 7 p.m. on Sept. 11 for the report of a robbery by force at tobacco shop in the 3500 block of Wilson Boulevard.

"Upon arrival, it was determined the male suspect entered the business, went behind the counter and began collecting merchandise," according to the incident report. "An employee confronted him and a physical altercation ensued during which the suspect produced a knife and stabbed the employee, resulting in several lacerations. The suspect then exited the store and fled the scene on foot. The employee suffered serious injuries and was treated at an area hospital and later released."

While officers were investigating the stabbing, they identified four additional robberies, stretching back to Nov. 5, 2024, at the tobacco shop that were committed by the same suspect, according to police. On three of those occasions an employee was threatened or assaulted and, during a robbery on June 7, the suspect used a firearm.

Through their investigation, officers identified Tyjuan Bullock of an undetermined address a suspect in the case. Detectives obtained arrest warrants for Bullock, who turned himself in to police on Tuesday. He was charged him with aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, attempted robbery, and four counts of robbery, according to the incident report.

Bullock was arraigned Wednesday morning in Arlington General District Court and had a bond hearing scheduled for 9 a.m. on Thursday, according to court records. He's due back in court at 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 13, 2026 for a preliminary hearing.

All of the charges Bullock is facing are felonies and each carry potential prison or jail sentences plus a fine. The most serious charge is the aggravated malicious wounding in connection to the Sept. 11 stabbing. If convicted on that charge, which is a Class 2 felony, Bullock faces a possible sentence of 20 years to life in prison and a fine of up to $100,000, under the Virginia Code.
