ARLINGTON, VA — Gunston Middle School in Arlington was placed on lockdown Tuesday afternoon while police investigated the credibility of a "report of a written threat," police and school officials said.
“Do not come to the school,” Arlington Public Schools said about the lockdown around 2:15 p.m. on Tuesday. “More information will be provided as it becomes available.”
Around 2:40 p.m. on Tuesday, police said Gunston Middle School was on "secure the building" status as police helped with a "controlled dismissal" of students.

Shortly after 3 p.m., police said the dismissal process was complete, but that police would remain at the school to investigate the written threat.
Earlier this year, Gunston Middle School was placed on lockdown after a “written threat” of gun violence was found at the school. In 2022, Gunston Middle School canceled an eighth grade dance after messages threatening violence were reportedly circulated in the community.
