VA Indecent Exposure Suspect May Have Other Victims Police Say

Police believe a suspect in custody may have exposed himself to others in the community before his arrest, and ask victims to come forward.

ARLINGTON, VA — Investigators with the Arlington County Police Department’s Special Victim’s Unit are asking anyone who may be a victim of an indecent exposure suspect to contact police.

Ivan Fontana, a 37-year-old Arlington resident, was charged with indecent exposure, public masturbation and indecent liberties with a child on May 31, according to police.

On June 4, a victim contacted police and reported that Fontana had exposed himself to her on May 31 in the 1000 block of North Quincy Street, according to police. ACPD filed an additional exposure charge against Fontana.

Detectives believe there may be other victims of Fontana. They ask anyone with information about this case or who has had an inappropriate encounter with Fontana to contact Detective P. Pena at 703-228-4183 or ppena@arlingtonva.us.

On Monday morning, Fontana was arraigned in Arlington General District Court on the latest indecent exposure charge, according to court documents. He has another hearing set for next Tuesday morning to review his case.

Fontana also has a status hearing scheduled for July 28 in Arlington County Juvenile and Domestic Relations court, according to court documents. He is currently undergoing a mental evaluation.

Indecent exposure and sexual battery are Class 1 misdemeanors, which are each punishable by confinement in jail for up to 12 months and/or a fine of up to $2,500, according to Virginia law.

The indecent liberties with a child charge is a more serious offense, according to the Code of Virginia. A Class 5 felony, Fontana faces a potential penalty of up to 10 years in prison, or, in the discretion of the jury or court, confinement in jail for not more than 12 months and a fine of not if he is convicted.
