Julie Farnam To Run As Democrat In 2024 For Arlington County Board

ARLINGTON, VA — Julie Farnam, who serves on the board of the Arlington Ridge Civic Association, announced Monday that she is running as a Democrat for the Arlington County Board seat held by fellow Democrat Libby Garvey.

Garvey will be seeking her fourth term on the board if she decides to run for re-election. In an email to Patch on Monday, Garvey said she will be deciding in January or early February if she will run again.

Natalie Roy, a local Realtor and former candidate board candidate, also announced Monday that she will be seeking the Democratic nomination for county board in June 2024.

“I believe in a community where residents feel safe, where the needs of our community are placed above the desires of developers, and where no resident must wonder if they are being heard,” Farnam said in a statement Monday.

Farnam previously served in leadership positions in both the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the United States Capitol Police.

“As a woman who has spent her career in security and law enforcement, I know what it takes to address the unique safety challenges Arlington faces in years and decades ahead,” she said.

Farnam, a small business owner and a single mother of students in Arlington, said "keeping our community safe" and “planning and growing with the best interests of our residents in mind” are two of her top campaign priorities.

Farnam will be holding a campaign kick-off event on Monday, Dec. 4 at The Freshman at 2011 Crystal Drive in Arlington.
