Lanes Closures On I-66 In Arlington To Prepare For Rosslyn Tunnel Work
Lane closures will be in effect on I-66 in Arlington from 10 p.m. on Monday to 5 a.m. on Tuesday to prepare for a lane shift in Rosslyn.

ARLINGTON, VA — Lane closures will be in effect on Interstate 66 in Arlington from 10 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 7 to 5 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 8 to prepare for a lane shift as part of the $37.7 million Rosslyn Tunnel rehabilitation project.
The lane closures will be in effect on westbound I-66 from the Route 29 off-ramp to just beyond the Rosslyn Tunnel, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
During the overnight lane closures, the westbound I-66 lanes through the Rosslyn Tunnel will be shifted to the right to prepare for the tunnel work.

Last week, the eastbound I-66 lanes through the tunnel were shifted to the right. Both the eastbound and westbound lane shifts are expected to be in place until spring 2024 to workers can conduct the repairs on the tunnel.
While the lanes will go back to normal in spring 2024, the project is scheduled for completion in summer 2025.

The Rosslyn Tunnel rehabilitation project will include removing the existing tunnel ceiling to improve long-term maintenance; upgrading electrical systems; installing a new fireproofing system; repairing steel beams, abutment and pier concrete, and joints; cleaning and repairing bearings; and replacing the tunnel lighting system.
The Rosslyn Tunnel carries I-66 traffic under North Nash Street, Fort Myer Drive, North Lynn Street and Gateway Park. The tunnel, nearly a fifth of a mile long, opened to traffic in 1983 and averages 64,000 vehicles a day.
