Lorton Man Faces Charges In Arlington For Fentanyl Overdose Death

A Lorton man has been charged in connection with a death that occurred in Arlington in June 2022 from a fentanyl overdose, police said.

ARLINGTON, VA — A Lorton man has been charged in connection with a death that occurred in Arlington in June 2022 from a fentanyl overdose, the Arlington County Police Department said Thursday.

The police department said its organized crime section obtained charges against Armand Navarro, 30, who is currently being held on unrelated charges in the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

In the Arlington drug overdose case, Navarro was charged with involuntary manslaughter and distribution of a controlled substance.

Shortly after 10 p.m. on June 29, 2022, police were dispatched to the 700 block of S. Courthouse Road for the report of a medical emergency. Upon arrival, officers found a man inside a residence suffering from an apparent fentanyl overdose. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

An autopsy conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined the cause of death to be acute fentanyl and mirtazapine intoxication, police said.

In their investigation, Arlington police detectives were able to identify the person suspected of supplying the man with controlled substances, and warrants were obtained for Navarro’s arrest.
