Driver Who Struck Bicyclist Following Dispute Faces Charge: Police
An Arlington man was cited for attempted malicious wounding when he struck a bicycle with his vehicle following a dispute, police say.
ARLINGTON, VA — A 58-year-old Arlington man is facing an attempted malicious wounding charge after he struck a man on a bicycle with his vehicle following a dispute Sunday morning near Long Branch Park, according to Arlington County police.
Officers responded around 11:13 a.m. to the 400 block of Long Bridge Drive for the report of a vehicle crash.
“Upon arrival, it was determined that following a dispute, the male victim, who was on a bike, and the male suspect, who was driving in the area, pulled into a parking lot,” according to the incident report. “The dispute continued during which the suspect allegedly accelerated his vehicle, striking the victim, causing him to fall to the ground and damaging the bicycle.”

After sustaining minor injuries that did not require medical attention, the victim self reported to the Office of the Magistrate, where he obtained warrants for the suspect, according to police.
The suspect, identified as Samuel Thernstorm of Arlington, was taken into custody at the scene of the crash, according to police. He was arrested and charged with attempted malicious wounding and destruction of property. He was then held without bond.
