Man With Knife Tries To Assault Police Officer In Rosslyn: ACPD

ARLINGTON, VA — A 46-year-old Arlington man is facing multiple charges, including attempted malicious wounding of a police officer, after he chased someone in Rosslyn on Wednesday afternoon while carrying a knife, according to Arlington County Police.

An officer responded around 1:04 p.m., for the report of a suspicious person in the 1600 block of 18th Street N. A preliminary investigation determined that a man was outside a residential building when another man began chasing him with a knife, according to police.

The officer located the suspect and tried to detain him, but the suspect became combative, grabbed the officer and tried to hit him, police say. With the help of other officers, the responding officer was able to take the man into custody. Although the suspect was uninjured, the first officer had received minor injuries.

The suspect, later identified as Brian Driver, continued to act disorderly and even tried to kick another officer, according to ACPD. During the encounter, police recovered a knife.

Driver was arrested and charged with assault on police, attempted malicious wounding of a law enforcement officer, attempted assault & battery, obstruction of justice and public intoxication, according to police. Driver was then held without bond.
